Dylan O’Brien is an American actor who currently co-stars as “Stiles” in MTV's Teen Wolf.
Early Life
Dylan O'Brien was born on August 26, 1991, in New York City, New York. He turned 25 in 2016.
He grew up around the entertainment industry. His mother, Lisa, was a former actress who also ran an acting school, and his father Patrick, was a camera operator.
He grew up in Springfield Township, New Jersey until he and his family moved to Hermosa Beach, California. After graduating from Mira Costa High School in 2009, he considered pursuing sports broadcasting but decided to move to Los Angeles for an acting career.
At fourteen, O'Brien began posting original videos onto his YouTube channel. With the videos developing, a local producer and director approached him about doing work for a web series of hers. While working on the web series, O'Brien met an actor who connected him with a manager.
Career
While auditioning for Teen Wolf, O'Brien auditioned for the role of Scott McCall. He was instead cast as Stiles.
He had a supporting role in the 2011 improvisational comedy film High Road with Lizzy Caplan and comedian Rob Riggle. He starred in the Jon Kasdan production The First Time, a 2012 romantic comedy that features Victoria Justice and Britt Robertson. The film received generally favorable reviews after its Fall 2012 release. In June 2012, O'Brien joined the cast filming The Internship, a comedy featuring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
O'Brien's first major movie lead came in 2014 with The Maze Runner in the role of Thomas. The film grossed $348,319,861 in worldwide ticket sales. He reprised the role again in 2015 for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials which sold $312,325,103 worth of tickets worldwide. He is set to reprise his role in Maze Runner: The Death Cure which will film in South Africa in early 2017.
Maze Runner Injury
O'Brien was severely injured performing a stunt on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure in March 2016. He was hospitalized briefly and spent nearly 5 months recovering from his injuries.
He returned to the public eye in early August and resumed his career in September when cameras began rolling on American Assassin in London.
Future with Teen Wolf
Current plans call for O'Brien to return to film Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 10 sometime after American Assassin wraps but before The Death Cure begins filming. His window of availability closes in January or February.
