Born Ivonne Coll Mendoza, she went to "Nuestra Señora del Pilar" school where she was an honor student.
She started out as a fashion model where in 1966 she represented her hometown in the "Miss Puerto Rico" and won. The following year she represented her country in the "Miss Universe" contest.
In 1971, she was approached to star on her own TV show titled Una chica llamada Ivonne Coll (A girl named Ivonne Coll) which ran from 1971 to 1975.
After the show's run, Coll moved to Los Angeles, CA and began attending the Academy of Stage and Cinema Arts where she took lessons in singing and dance.
After appearing in theatre productions like Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and As You Like It, her first recognizable film appearance in the U.S. came in 1979 as 'Yolanda' in The Godfather, Part II.
One other recognizable film character is the minor role of 'Miss Santos' in 1989's Lean on Me.
Over the years, Coll has made appearances in the U.S. on shows such as The Bold and the Beautiful, NYPD Blue, Glee, Chicago Hope, and L.A. Law.
One of her most recent roles is that of Adriana Vasquez on ABC Family's Switched at Birth.
