Max Carver (Robert Maxwell Martensen) is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Preston Scavo on ABC’s Desperate Housewives.
Early Life Edit
Carver was born just after midnight on August 1st, 1988 – seven minutes after his brother Charlie.
Due to the timing, the identical twins have different birth dates.
Before they began acting professionally, they were known as Max and Charlie Martensen.
Carver’s father, Robert Martensen, is an author and medical researcher in history at the National Institutes of Health.
In 1992, Anne Carver and her new husband, Denis Sutro, moved the family to Calistoga in California’s Napa Valley where they took over the 90 year old Palisades Vineyard.
Carver appeared in amateur theatricals and improvisational performances while attending St. Paul’s Boarding School in Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 with Distinction in Fine Arts and Humanities.
Carver played lacrosse while in high school and is listed by the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association as a midfielder for the 2008 University of Southern California lacrosse team. He reportedly played in 6 games for the Trojans wearing jersey #33.
He received a degree in English with a minor in Cinematic Arts from USC in 2012.
Carver was working with his father on a palliative care study at the NIH in 2008 when brother Charlie was approached at a shoe store in California by Talent Agent Matthew Jackson of Rebel Entertainment Partners.
Jackson thought the elder Carver had “an interesting look” and signed both twins to the agency almost immediately.
Their first big break came when Charlie auditioned for Desperate Housewives and producers asked to also see Max, who was still working on the project with his father in Bethesda, Maryland.
Max auditioned via iChat and they booked the part, joining Television’s most popular nighttime soap opera in its 5th season.
He also appeared in the webseries Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn in 2012.
