Teen Wolf Season 6 will be the last season of the MTV show.

Like Season 5 there will be 20 episodes. Instead of telling a single story, there will be two stories broken into 10 episode arcs.

The first episode of Season 6 aired on Tuesday, November 15. The show aired five episodes before taking a short, two-week hiatus for the Christmas Holiday. New episodes returned for the entire month of January.

Teen Wolf will return with the final 10 episodes in the Summer of 2017.

Before the end, Scott and Lydia will stand alone against the growing darkness and fight to stop the destruction of everything and everyone they love.”

Plot Details(Mild Spoilers)

The first half of Teen Wolf Season 6 revolves around the Ghost Riders. This supernatural group (mentioned as part of the Wild Hunt in Season 5) can erase people from memory. On October 3, 2016, all official MTV references to Teen Wolf disappeared from the internet. The network’s official Teen Wolf website, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and YouTube accounts led nowhere. This publicity stunt played on the Ghost Riders' ability to erase people from memory.

Three days later, Official Teen Wolf accounts returned, and the network released a new trailer for the upcoming season.

Teen Wolf Season 6 Trailer

MTV ordered a 20 episode Season 6 and announced the show's renewal during San Diego Comic Con in July 2015. Davis also announced that Dylan O'Brien, Tyler Posey, and Dylan Sprayberry will return for Season 6.

6A Production

Executive Producer Jeff Davis told Teen Wolf News in December that writing for the new episodes had begun. "Season 6A just started the writers' room, and we’ve hired two new very talented writers to help out.”

Production on the final season began Monday, February 22, 2016, at the Inglewood Oilfield near Los Angeles, California.

On March 11th, production on Season 6 halted and all sets, props, and costumes moved to a new studio. Davis says the former Teen Wolf headquarters at 8400 Balboa Blvd in Northridge would be torn down.

Production resumed two weeks later at a new studio in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles.

On June 17, Teen Wolf completed principal photography on the first half of Season 6, but Davis told Teen Wolf News that Episode 610 would be filmed later due to Dylan O'Brien's accident on The Death Cure and his filming schedule on American Assassin.

6B Production

On October 4, 2016, cast and crew began filming the second half of the season (Season 6b) at their Chatsworth headquarters. Due to pressure from the network, they pushed into production before scripts were ready leading to scheduling issues and confusion on set. MTV initially planned to air 6b immediately after 6a meaning they had little time to complete 10 new episodes.

On October 13, Davis invited Teen Wolf Wikia Admin Paul V. Rea to visit set. His Teen Wolf News reports revealed the production was working on pick-up scenes for the first half of the season as well as new scenes for 6b.

Tyler Posey directed episode 613 beginning on October 25, 2016. Linden Ashby directed episode 614 the following week.

Around this time, new MTV President Chris McCarthy decided to extend the final season of Teen Wolf by pushing the debut of 6b to Summer. The move allowed Davis and crew to ease their aggressive production schedule.

In early December, Dylan O'Brien wrapped production on American Assassin and returned to Los Angeles. A few days later, he reported to Teen Wolf HQ for what was to be his last week of work on the series. Production of the episode was held up until this point because it heavily featured O'Brien who was unavailable earlier due to other commitments. Production on Episode 610 lasted approximately nine days, wrapping on December 23. O'Brien was officially finished with his role on the show at this time.

Production resumed on the final five 6b episodes on January 16. It began with Writer Eric Wallace directing #616. This marks his directorial debut on the series.

On January 25, 2017, a source on the Teen Wolf set confirmed a new deal to bring O'Brien back beyond episode 610. It is unclear what his involvement in Season 6b will be, but the source told Teen Wolf News, "610 will not be O’Brien’s last episode." No further details were offered.

O'Brien and returning co-star Tyler Hoechlin were reportedly spotted on set by fans on February 10. Teen Wolf filmed on location that night in downtown Los Angeles in an area known as City Market.

On March 10, 2017, Teen Wolf cast and crew celebrated filming their 100th episode. On March 13, they filmed the final scene featuring Tyler Posey and Holland Roden as principle photography on the series officially wrapped. Post production work continued for the next three months.
