Shiprock in the Teen Wolf Universe is the rock formation in New Mexico where Noshiko Yukimura took her daughter, Kira Yukimura, to learn control over her fox spirit.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This article concerns itself with Shiprock appearing in the MTV series Teen Wolf. Click here for information on real world Shiprock.

Real World Mythology[]

In the Navajo language, it's name is "Tsé Bitʼaʼí" which means "rock with wings." It is derived from a legend of a great bird that brought the Navajo people from the north to their present lands. Many other myths and legends concerning this rock formation range from it being home to ghosts and bird monsters, or a piece of a spirit who consists of several other mountains throughout the region.

The name "Shiprock" or "Shiprock Peak" derives from the peak's resemblance to a 19th-century clipper ship.

Teen Wolf Mythology[]

Kira meets the Skinwalkers where they agree to test her to determine whether she has control of her power or not. She fight an Oni conjured up to fight her. During the fight, Kira's fox spirit emerges and destroys the demon. The Skinwalkers see this as the fox being in control and decide Kira must stay with them to learn control. Kira escapes with help from her mother, Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski. (Damnatio Memoriae, Codominance)

Kira returns to Shiprock for their help in defeating Theo Raeken and Dread Doctors. They agree as long as she remains with them to learn how to control her fox spirit. (The Beast of Beacon Hills, Apotheosis)

Production[]

The Teen Wolf production shot all the Shiprock scenes at the famous Vasquez Rock formation north of Los Angeles. They use CGI and other onscreen trickery to transform it into the New Mexico location.
