Come on, Jeff disappoints me with this. You know what will be a perfect and justifiable spinoff.
A spinoff about the motherfucking Hales, man.How can we talk about Teen Wolf spinoffs and not even taking in consideration what clearly is the best idea for a Teen Wolf spinoff?Actually given what we know about the Hales, it's kind of weird and questionable how Teen Wolf wasn't about the Hales in the first place.I mean, instead of an asthmatic teenager becoming a werewolf, we could've had a show about a BADASS family of werewolves and their dynamics, not to mention the conflict between the Argents and the Hales. Not that I have anything against how the show it is now, it's just the more I'm thingking about the Hale family and past that are shrouded in mystery I realized that would be a far more interesting show than what it is right now and if Jeff wants a spinoff why doesn't he try to do this?
You could make a full scale war between the two families. You could make teen Derek the main character and you could make Kate Argent the same age as he is and you could make her like Allison. Then they fall in love while their families kill each other, their families find out, they forbid them to ever see each other, they obviously don't listen, one thing let's to another and Kate's mom dies somehow because of Derek(but it's not really his fault, it's Peter's), Gerard manipulates the shit out of Kate, Kate turns full psycho, she manipulates the shit out of Derek, murders most of Derek's family by burning their house with Derek's help(without him realizing that the piece of information he revealed to her was for this). And there you have a perfect Romeo and Juliet kind of story, Jeff loves comparing Teen Wolf characters to characters from Shakespeare's works anyway, like Peter is Iago to Derek's Othello.Well nobody says Derek can't be Othello and Romeo at the same time, Romello, Rothello, Omeo, Otheomeo.
But even without the sappy, but potential great love stroyline between Derek and Kate, you still could have a great show just by having the Hales and the Argents come at each other. And obviously, showing their ranking system like how the Argents are a matriarchal family, the women are the leaders and the men are the soldiers, even though in the show that wasn't highlighted at all.I mean they talked about it and they mentioned it like a true story, but all I saw was Gerard making the decisions and then Gerard manipulating Allison who's a fucking teenager, regardless of women being the leaders there should be an age limit or an efficiency criteria.Like really, I haven't seen Allison as the matriarch of her family at all, not even her mother or Kate for that matter. You could make a show about an Argent choosing to become a werewolf(instead of foolishly and pointlessly killing themselves) and be the werewolf who hunts werewolves, literally a Blade Werewolf, you can't get any more badass than that.Actually the most disappointing thing about Victoria's demise was the fact that she could totally choose to become a werewolf and use her newly acquired skills to hunt down Derek and his pack and any other werewolf for that matter. She could've even deceive Derek by pretending she understands them now and trying to become part of his pack(though I am not sure Derek would fall for that).Nothing could be more badass and useful as a highly trained and prepared hunter like a member of the Argents becoming a werewolf and using both his/her hunting skills and tools in colaboration with his/her werewolf powers. What if he/she kills an alpha? They become an alpha, turn other hunters into werewolves=the werewolf pack who hunts werewolves. There you go, I made it even more badass.Or after said werewolf who hunts werewolves becomes an alpha he/she just chooses to force every werewolf they catch to submit to him, thus making said werewolf a beta to him/her and then kill that beta of course.His/her power would be added to you and after some time you would find yourself an uber powerful alpha werewolf who hunts werewolves. No werewolf would have a chance. And of course, if human bodies can adapt this well, how about werewolf bodies. As a werewolf you should be smart enough to deduce that with little exposure to werewolf poisons(aconite, mountain ash) your body would adapt more in time.Grigori Rasputin took a little ounce of cyanide every day for like 30 years or less than 30, I forgot the exact number and after that his body was so adapted to cyanide that when they tried to murder him by poisoning him guess what happened. They made a cake, that's right like a birthday cake, they gave it to him as a gift and of course, the cake was full of cyanide.Rasputin ate the whole cake(poisoned with cyanide) and he only had a minor indigestion, that's all.Not even enough to complain too much about it.Now imagine a werewolf doing something like that with every poison known to man including wolfsbane and mountain ash and if in like a year or 2 he doesn't become immune to it, then it's simply put bullshit.
Also, in the Hale family how were they passing the Alpha torch to the leader of the next generation and did all the Hales were werewolves or were some humans among their family. Were they allowed to procreate only with other werewolves(and possibly not any kind, but only the noble kind of werewolves) or were they allowed to marry and have kids with any normal human. If so, how did that work out? Were they dating the human for a period of time and then they were just "Hey, did you know my family suffers from lycanthropy? It's totally cool only when it's not" and what happened if the person in question simply chose to not be with the Hale member. They would've instantly become a liability, because they would know about them being werewolves and there was no way to be certain that they would just keep quiet about it.Kind of problematic. And how the Hale kids were trained as well into becoming fit werewolves as soldiers(betas) but especially as leaders(alphas).I imagine there were like werewolfology lessons, the myths about the first werewolves, how to control their power, how to control their senses and their emotions, how to protect the innocent, every werewolf ritual, like healing methods, not just taking the pain away, but also healing each other in packs like joining hands or something. The rites of passage for someone in preparation to become the new alpha, like how Peter knows the memory-claw trick, he said it's an ancient ritual, mostly used by alphas, meaning any werewolf can do it if someone taught them how to do it, but still it's mostly reserved by alphas and that it requires a lot of practice, obviously Peter and Talia were trained into knowing this.Peter also mentions how he never paralyzed anyone, but you could accidentally, meaning a werewolf with Peter's knowledge should know how to paralyze anyone by slashing the back of their neck just like the Kanima(only permanent and not caused by a paralytic agent) or by a quick insertion of their claws to the spinal cord. Also what more they can do?If they can take away pain and heal you with this method, they can also give you pain just by touching you?If they can see your memories(Peter seeing Isaac's memory), show you their memories(Peter showing Scott flashbacks of the fire) and take away your memories(Talia making Peter and Derek forget about where the root cellar, the Nemeton is) can they implant false memories as well?Or can they alter your memories in a specified way, not just forgetting things, let's say replacing persons that were with you on an event in your life like instead of your father bringing your Christmas gifts you would remember Peter doing so and you would be damn sure about it.If they can take away the pain, can they take away other feelings or other senses?Because physical pain is a sense you know, the nociceptive sense to be more precise, could they be able to take away your vision and if they can play with your memory, can they play with your feelings, shifting the way you feel about something or someone? And if they can heal the way we see them do, can't they just heal just about everything according to their power and status?I'm assuming an alpha with a big pack could cure fucking cancer if they would try.Or blindness and almost any kind of disease.Just imagine a werewolf doctor, he could try the disease on himself, thus making his werewolf body produce the strong antibodies needed for curing the disease, then make a vaccin and that's it, disease cured.Remember how Derek could see Scott's tattoo even though it was beneath his skin? Not only that means werewolves(alphas at least) can see through clothes(seeing anyone they want naked basically), just imagine what a fine surgeon a werewolf can be with that skill, seeing directly into the patient's body, they could identify the problem very quickly.Actually imagine a werewolf clinic, you go to the doctor, he uses his werewolf senses on you, hears your heart bit, sees inside your body, can sense if you are lying about something(and to double check they could just check your memory, just imagine a werewolf detective), basically the werewolf would find a diagnosis almost instantly since they could see if their initial diagnosis is wrong by checking your body.
These are my ideas for a spinoff and I think it would be a waste to make a spinoff about something else other than this.As I already pointed out, this has the potential to be even better than the original show, as a matter of fact I am kind of bumbed as to how they didn't make this the show.A show about the conflict of the Hales and the Argents with either family as main characters would be badass.Throw some romance, scary villains that make the families join together against a common powerful enemy and a werewolf who hunts werewolves and there you have it folks, the ultimate werewolf tv show, enough to overshadow any vampire tv show or movie for the rest of the decade and establish werewolves as the alphas of apex predators.
^wow...too much to comment on it all but I will agree with you that the Hale family is probably the most interesting aspect of Teen Wolf for me right now...and I do think it has better spinoff potential that the kistune. DIdn't really like the Romeo/Derek Kate/Juliet idea...I'm kind of tired with the romance thing (been done to death recently)...but I absolutely love your idea about finding out how they were trained and how they pass the alpha torch.
And off the subject...your comment about them being able to perhpas add memories (or false memories) to a person makes me wonder if Peter inserted himself into Lydia's mind when he attacked her and that she was having visions of him that he implanted into her rather than him communicating to her from the dead (which is what I thought previously)...or perhaps it was a combination of both. Just a little speculation on my part...anyway an interesting post and a lot of food for thought.
If you were the one that made the really long post then it was probably removed because this area is for threads not an entire blog. A long thread is one thing, but you had written a post that was as long as most essays.
To do a prequel spinoff while a show that is set in the present is currently on would be stupid. Maybe if they gave Derek his own spinoff now and showed his "journey" (one of redemption perhaps?) that might be worth some merit. But to be honest, as much as I love the whole werewolf as a hero thing, it's being done on Teen Wolf. I think a spinoff about something different like the Kitsune would be cool, it could be like how Angel was a spinoff from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, (esp how Davis said in the article that he wanted to do "their own version of Buffy").
Also I kinda hope Jennifer doesn't come back, because it seems that the "big bad" in each season of TW never stays dad (Peter, Gerard (who never actually died)). Why can't we just have a villain that stays dead? Although, color me insane but I was thinking what if Jennifer does come back but not as an antagonist of any kind, what if she seeks redemption (I know she was wronged by the alpha pack and all and she considered the sacrifices she made to be justified, but lets face it she MURDERED people) and a spinoff was used with her character instead? Something like he "helping the helpless" (ala Angel) or something like that?
Sorry this is so long, and I hope it doesn't get deleted, would love to hear peoples opinions.
I believe based on things Jeff has said that it is an artifact of sorts. Perhaps a book or some other family antiquity. If we take a look at the bigger picture here then I believe that Peter has been looking for this same artifact and maybe gave the location to Derek. Peter has immersed himself in his own "library" of sorts. He is gaining knowledge. Knowledge itself is power. Derek may be retrieving an old book that tells of rituals that will give him back the Alpha spark. OR it may be some other thing. I highly doubt it is a person though. Oh well it's just IMO. We will see soon enough I hope!
