The Stilinskis take Manhattan

TV father and son, Linden Ashby and Dylan O'Brien, are off to the big apple this weekend for New York Comic Con.

Misters Stilinski will be joined by Teen Wolf Creator and Executive Producer Jeff Davis for a panel Q&A on Saturday, October 12 from 1:30PM till 2:30PM EDT at the Javits Center in New York City.

In addition to the main panel, the gentlemen will do a limited autograph session and meet the press in the sometimes enlightening, sometime annoying, media round tables.

We’ll be tracking the event throughout the day on Saturday and have updates for you on our Behind the Scenes page and a special report coming late Saturday or early Sunday.

Tyler’s Walk Raises $12,000

A clarification on an earlier Teen Wolf News story – We erroneously reported that Tyler Posey had raised close to $21 thousand dollars in the Light up the Night cancer fundraiser.

We mistakenly added his individual total to his team total and came up with that figure.

It turns out his individual total was already included in the team’s total and the final tally was just $11,533.54.

We regret the error.

As thanks for reading about my f-up – here’s a video of the event from the MTVACT website.

Why the TV Guide Cover doesn’t Matter but Twitter Might

Two different stories are out this week that could have an effect on the future success of Teen Wolf.

MTV is busy asking people to vote for the show to get a “fan favorite” cover from TV guide magazine while Nielsen, the company that does all the TV ratings, is now reading your tweets.

Here’s why you should ignore the former and focus on the latter.

Almost Nobody reads TV Guide anymore.

Before the internet, the little tablet sized magazine was mainstay in American homes.

Media Business Blogger Steve Tarter sums up how far the mighty publication has fallen -

“In its heyday, circulation topped 20 million but with the arrival of cable TV and hundreds of channels, the small format booklet just couldn’t keep up anymore. The numbers of copies sold has dropped drastically over the years. Last year, TV Guide’s circulation barely topped 2 million, ranking it 32nd among U.S. magazines.”

So while a TV Guide cover would give Teen Wolf fandom bragging rights and a nice keepsake, it’s not going to boost ratings or advertising revenue. Tweeting about the show, however, might just result in both.

Nielsen and Twitter are working together on social media/ratings correlation data, and this month launched the “Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings” chart.

You’ll note from the linked chart above – decent but relatively low rated shows (GLEE, SNL, TVD) rank in the big time right alongside network powerhouses like Scandal and The Voice.

Don’t flame me for saying that Glee and The Vampire Diaries are “relatively low rated” – they are. The season debut episode of Scandal pulled 10 million viewers while TVD saw less than 3 million and GLEE got 4.5 million on the same night. But, looking at the Twitter Ratings, they’re all right up there together like equals.

I can tell you right now with complete confidence that all this is complete and utter bunk. There is no way to say for sure that there’s a correlation between the ratings success of a show and the number of tweets it generates.

HOWEVER -Nielsen is married to this new system and has invested a bunch of money and will ram it down the industry's throat for the next several months at least. This means shows that rank well on the “twitter chart” will get a good bit of buzz in TV ratings and ad-buying circles. This would be very good for Teen Wolf as producers and the network look toward a possible Season 4.

We have three assignments for Teen Wolf Super Fans –

1. Sign up for Twitter.
2. Watch the Show Live when it returns to MTV on January 6th.
3. Tweet the HELL out of it! Always use the #TeenWolf and #MTV somewhere in the tweet so it gets counted.

As I said, it’s not real – it’s a bunch of corporate puffery, but we can all play their game and help boost the show’s profile and it won’t cost us a penny.
